Long bio (approx. 150 words)

Catherine Kerrigan is the pen name of a lifelong reader of historical fiction who grew tired of heroines who apologized for being inconvenient. She writes Regency London romance in which sharp women use the tools available to them—sharp minds, household ledgers, needle-sharp observation, and the occasional well-timed social ruin—as intelligence and weapons in equal measure.

Her debut novel, The Lady's Guide to Calculated Ruin, the first in The Thornbury Files series, is forthcoming June 29, 2027. She is currently at work on the second Theodora Thornbury novel. She publishes a newsletter, Calculated Ruin, on difficult women in history, Regency social oddities, and the slow, absorbing work of writing a second book.

Theodora Thornbury has three rules: never trust a man who smiles too readily, never let anyone see your accounts, and never, under any circumstances, solve a problem that isn't yours. She has broken all three before breakfast on the morning the Earl of Briarcliffe arrives at her door with a situation only she can untangle.

What begins as a matter of property law and a missing codicil becomes something considerably more dangerous—and considerably more interesting. Set in a Regency London of private salons, contested wills, and women who know exactly what they are worth, The Lady's Guide to Calculated Ruin is a story about intelligence as survival, desire as inconvenience, and the particular satisfaction of being right in a room full of men who assumed otherwise.
